If Life Gives You Lemons, Run a Lemonade Stand

Kylie’s Story
Kylie – 4 is an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) survivor. She was diagnosed with ALL in April of 2012 and it has been a long, hard journey filled with many emotions and testing times since then. Even to this day her parents are still faced with new challenges, as Kylie’s mother shares:
“Chris and I face the new challenge of not allowing the anxiety and fear of a relapse to consume us. We want to cherish the good times we are blessed with and enjoy Cameron and Kylie.”
Kylie began a 30 month treatment process when she was diagnosed, which would include intensive chemotherapy, 10 different drugs of varying dosages and intervals, spending lots of time in and out of hospitals – even her own 3rd birthday, as well as the emotional roller-coaster that her and her family would face. But luckily it would be that Kylie was surrounded by so much love and support that it would bring people together in such a way where even strangers, communities, even the nurses became as close as some of the families that surrounded her. It seems that the support that Kylie and her family received was integral to their healing process.
What's Next?
Now that the treatment is over, the question arises as to what happens next. Although Kylie’s chemo has concluded, the journey continues as she will require close monitoring to ensure there is no cause for concern of the cancer returning.
But on a more positive note, Kylie shows no signs of fear and is ready to get on with living her life to the fullest. For example next Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Kylie will be running her own lemonade stand outside of Candy Funhouse! It has always been a desire close to this brave girl’s heart to run her own lemonade stand and donate the money to charity, and we at Candy Funhouse would love nothing more than to support this inspiring child’s dream. One thing is for sure; if there’s anything I’ve learned from Kylie’s story is that if life gives you lemons, put on a lemonade stand.
